The gospel of Jesus teaches us that it is only God who can deal with the reality of our guilt, and the problem of our sin. It is God alone who must grant forgiveness. Isaiah believed he was uterly doomed, if God would not intervine. This humility is the trailhead of the journey that leads to eternal life. The other story, the human gospel, hates this beginning it prefers a different trailhead, one that teaches that guilt can be explained away, that sin is an antiquated and unhelpful term. That divine forgiveness is a construct for the weak, best to be liberated from. "Salvation" for the human comes when he realizes that he is a champion, the winner. This trailhead starts with self awareness, self confidence, & self optimism, but sadly, this jubulant self exaltent march is a march that leads only to death.
